quilt photos

I just love it when customers snap a photo of their finished Applique Quilt to share with me! I am working on building an online gallery for the website and I’d love to include your photos!

Last week, we talked about hanging your quilts for photography to avoid heads, hands and feet in the photo. This week we have another typical problem, skewed photos. But by laying the photo on the floor, it was difficult to get the camera right over the on the center of the quilt. The good news is, by using natural sunlight the color of the quilts do not need to be adjusted.

In the Red Frames quilt on the left, the quilt is skewed vertically by standing at the bottom of the quilt and snapping a photo.   I’ll need to remove the deck boards, chairs and planters from the finished photo.  

In the unfinished Eve’s Garden quilt on the right, the quilt is skewed horizontally by standing too far to the left of the center of the quilt. Since this quilt is unfinished, I’ll need to also crop the photo to make it look like I have squared up the edges and finished the quilt!  So let’s get these skewed photos adjusted and ready to send to friends on social media or in an e-mail!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 1 (photo one): Select the photo you want to fix and press the blue EDIT tab in the bottom tool bar.

Step 2 (photo 2):  Choose the crop and rotate tool that is the third icon on the right on the bottom tool bar.

Step 3 (photo 3):  Choose the middle icon (just under the photo) to fix the vertical skew and slide the bar right or left to square up the edges.  If the skew is horizontal, choose the third icon on the right. On that same screen, drag the white corners to crop the quilt to it’s finished size.  The first icon is to twist or turn the quilt between zero and 90 degrees.  If you need to flip the photo (mirror image) use the icon on the top left.  If you need to  rotate the photo 90 degrees use the top icon on the right.  

With a few edits, I can remove the deck boards in need of repainting, square-up the finished quilt and crop the unfinished quilt so it looks complete…and I can do it all within the phone app.
