Promise Ring Quilt
There are a few corrections/additions to the Promise Ring Quilt pattern if you bought it before September 2011.
The finished sizes of the quilts are:
Wall, 28″ x 28″
Lap/crib, 46″ x 54″
Queen, 84″ x 100″
Batting should be cotton batting if you are going to do your decorative stitching through all three layers. That way you can add each appliqué element (steps G, H and I) and stitch as you go. If you use poly batting, the batting will melt as you fuse the shapes down, and you will not get any loft.
Instructions for Crib/Lap size and Queen size quilts (page 8):
Crib/lap size Promise Ring Quilt: Cut one background panel 34″ x 42″. Mark a 4 x 5 grid of 8″ squares on the center panel, leaving 1″ all around.
Queen size Promise Ring Quilt: Cut two background panels, 42″ x 66″.
From Pre-fused fabrics, cut 320 2 1/2″ leaves with the Petite Leaves Galore template for leaves (green in photo).
From Pre-fused fabrics, cut 640 2 1/2″ leaves with the Petite Leaves Galore template for flower petals (red/orange in photo).
Mark grid lines on two background panels in 8″ squares, centering grid lines on fabric to leave 1″ border around all four sides. Mark one 66″ edge of each panel with the word “seam” on outside of the grid. Do not place appliqué over this seam line.
Flowers Galore Place Mats
The following are changes to the Flowers Galore Place Mats patterns printed before September 2011.
The backing fabric and batting, one yard cut in four 14″ x 22″ rectangles.
If you bought the Flowers Galore Place Mats pattern between May 16th and June 16th, 2011, you may be missing a one page insert, not stapled into the booklet. This insert illustrates how to cut the petals for the sunflower, poinsettia and daisy flowers. If your pattern does not contain this supplement, you can go to my online shop and print the free PDF file for this supplement. You will not be charged for this PDF download.
Melissa’s Quilt
On the back cover, the correct yardage for backing the crib size quilt is 1 1/2 yards, and for the double size quilt is 4 3/4 yards.
Cut the borders for the crib size quilt 7 1/2″ x 27″ and 7 1/2″ x 38″. Table one is incorrect, however, the fabric cutting diagram on page two is correct.
For the miniature quilt, cut borders 3 1/2″ x 10 1/2″ and 3 1/2″ x 16 1/2″. Finished quilt size is 14″ x 16 1/2″.
Hope's Diamond
Hope’s Diamond is a beautiful quilt that uses the Grande Leaves Galore template to trim the edges from a 60 degree diamond, making curved diamonds. A bonus quilt can be made from the trimmings of your diamonds. Watch for the free download that will soon be available on the patterns page.
When cutting the 60 degree diamonds for Hope’s Diamond, make sure you cut 5 1/4″ strips, then cut the 60 degree angle from the end of your strip. From the 60 degree angle, cross cut the strips using the 5 1/4″ mark on your ruler. The instructions point out that the final size of your diamonds measures 6″ on each side, but this is a function of the angles. You never use the 6″ marking on your ruler to cut the diamonds.
Some fat quarters may not be 18″ x 22″. If your fat quarters are short, you may not get 3 full diamonds from each of the strips. In that case, you will need to fuse the extra strip of fabric that you removed from the fat quarter to cut more diamonds.
If you purchased your pattern prior to 12/25/14, please check the back of your pattern, as well as pages 5 and 8. You will need to use a 12″ square to cut out the two background hearts as shown in photo 3 on Page 8.
Inner Border: Inner border needs to be 37 1/2″ long, not 37″ long. Cut borders the full width of fabric, then cut down to size when adding the borders.
Outer Border: Outer borders need to be 44 1/2″ long. Fabric is generally not 45″ wide, so you can add cornerstones to two of the borders to make them long enough. Sew two borders (cut at 4″ x 37 1/2″) to right and left side of quilt. Cut four cornerstones, 4″ square from the left over sashing yardage. Add cornerstones to two borders cut 4″ x 37 1/2″. Sew these two borders onto top and bottom of the quilt matching seams at the cornerstones.
Note: Before you cut these borders, double check the measurement of the quilt after adding your inner border. Make sure it is 37 1/2″ or adjust your border measurement to fit your quilt as it is sewn.
