On Wednesday, I used Hearts and More for two different uses. First, I taught a class on making the Drunkard’s Path quilt, then I made dinner with Hearts and More!
Hearts & More Applique gadgets…more than just applique.
I know, that seems like an outrageous use of my applique templates, so let me show you how I used the Hearts and More tools to make dinner! Bur first, I want to show you this pretty Drunkard’s Path Quilt made in an unusual way.
Drunkard’s Path Quilt by Machine
I always had Drunkard’s Path on my “Bucket List”. It is such a pretty two-color quilt and I have always admired them. I kept putting off making Drunkard’s Path because of the tight curve on the pieced seams. I don’t enjoy making quilts with curved seams but I just love the “look” of these quilts!
So instead, I make Drunkard’s Path with fusible, machine-stitched applique. On Wednesday, I taught a Drunkard’s Path Quilt class today for “Ahead of the Curve” members. By using the 5″ end of Hearts and More TemplateD, we can cut and fuse circles, then stitch the circles to a background fabric. After stitching, the circle blocks are cut in four to make the Drunkard’s Path Block.
This method is so much faster and more fun than curved piecing. Here is the quilt we made in the workshop!
The recorded version of the workshop is available in “Ahead of the Curve” Gold and Platinum Leaf membership. The technique is also explained in detail in “Hearts and More Rotary Cut Applique”. Here is the quilt sample for the class based on the quilts in the book.

Making Dinner with H&M?
My “work” was done for the day, so I started making dinner with my daughter Lauren. We made Apple Dijon Grilled Cheese sandwiches with fresh thyme. It would have taken me forever to strip the thyme leaves off the stems, and I was sorry that I never invested in a herb stripping tool like this one. Check out the tiny holes on the tool!
I don’t own an herb stripper tool, but I do own a Hearts & More tool! All the Hearts and More tools have a tiny hole in the center of each circle for marking the circle center. We used this feature in the Drunkard’s Path Class just a few hours before…So it was fresh on my mind.
I grabbed my smallest Hearts & More tool and voila! The perfect herb stripper!
I have to say, the Grilled Cheese with apples and thyme was the perfect end to a nearly perfect day!
Making Drunkard’s Path quilts with “Ahead of the Curve” members and making Gourmet Grilled cheese sandwiches with my daughter…it doesn’t get much better than that!
Happy Applique!
PS, The Grilled Cheese Recipe is from Hello Fresh. My daughter is vegetarian and she has “Hello Fresh” meals delivered to our house. She orders three meals a week for two people, so I am the lucky “plus one” for these excellent meals. I can’t say enough about the recipes. Everything we have tried from the vegetarian menu has been excellent! If you are interested in Hello Fresh, my daughter can refer you. She has a coupon code she can share for a free week of Hello Fresh delivered to your door!
I am not an affiliate, and I do not get compensation from Hello Fresh, I just have enjoyed the meals over the past 6 months and thought I would share!
