Illuminate!

“Illuminate” is the theme for a challenge group that I belong to, consisting of 10 artists that work in various media.  The previous theme had been “element” but time got away from me before I was able to explore that challenge theme. “THE FIRE WITHIN”, my submission for the “illuminate” challenge addresses both themes. The element of fire is so essential to life on this earth. From the fire comes a light that can illuminate the world, removing darkness and fear.

The essential elements of life, symbols of fire and the need to illuminate the world bring to my mind so many deeper, more spiritual meanings.  will not attempt too put words to the way these thoughts warm and mold my soul. I will simply leave you with a quote from Oprah Winfrey that helped me to appreciate my passion, my artful side, my obsession with shape and fabric.

Illuminate:  THE FIRE WITHIN 12″ x 12″ cotton batik and prints, fused to a black cotton background with Mistyfuse. Shapes cut with the 2.5″ Petite Leaves Galore template. Layered with black cotton batting and backing. Quilted with Sulky Haloshimmer on my Elna domestic machine.
