I am one of the millions of stereotypical women who on Monday Nights, Thursday evenings, Saturday afternoons and Sundays, are left to our own devices. My husband is no longer skulking around the sewing room, saying, “Are you finished?…When is dinner going to be ready?… Do you want to go out for a ride???
In my house, Football Season is Sewing Season! My husband is content sit in front of the TV for hours on end watching grown men run headlong into each other…shoulder to shoulder, helmet to helmet chasing after a pig-skin ball. I am MORE THAN CONTENT to sit hours on end in front of my sewing machine, happily creating my latest Applique Quilt!
Now don’t get me wrong, I love spending time with my husband on the weekends! If “HIS TEAM” is not playing and he is ready for a bike ride, I’m all in! But Fall is the one time of year when I don’t feel at all guilty about spending a HAPPY SUNDAY glued to my sewing machine!
When I do choose to watch the occasional quarter, I have a finished quilt on my lap, stitching on the binding, sleeve or label while I watch the game. Instead of “wasting my day” watching football, I enjoy the game even more knowing that I will have a finished quilt in the end.
So instead of feeling left out, frustrated, or even jealous of the tube on Game Day, I say GAME ON! From now until Super Bowl Sunday, I’m challenging myself to move the ball down the field on my projects, and get a BIG WIN of my own on Game Day!
