My goal for 2022 is 50 fails.
Ok, so maybe that needs an explanation.
When I used to set goals, I didn’t challenge myself. I felt setting goals was scary, and I didn’t want to fail. So I set my goals so low, I knew I wouldn’t have to stretch too much to reach them.
But I have learned that “Playing it safe” is playing small. I want to take a risk…I want to put myself out there…I want to think BIG.
2022 is here, and it is a blank page.
When I look back on 2022, I want to see how far I have come, how much I have grown and how BIG I can dream!
In order to grow in 2022, I need to get a bit uncomfortable. I need to take a risk, and that means I will probably fail. A lot. So I am shooting for 50 fails!
To fail 50 times, I have to set 50 goals that are a little out of my reach. The goal is to get comfortable with failing. If I never try, I never fail. But if I never try, I also never grow! When I reach 25% of a goal, and fail to reach the final 75%, I still win. If I reach 80% of a goal, I still fail, but I’ll take that any day of the week! Imagine how far I will progress in a year of 50 fails.
This is on the wall of the boxing gym that I joined this year. Another fail. My goal was to get there three days a week, but with just one or two workouts a week, I already feel stronger!
So who is with me? Maybe you already have a great goal for 2022. Maybe you are afraid to set goals that are a little out of your comfort zone. So let’s learn to fail together! When we have 50 fails, imagine how many wins we will have recorded!!
Dear Sue and everybody: I am glad to write you for I am using the Leaves Galore rulers and my ruler foot, only one set of rulers, to quilt with, and my quilting is turning out perfectly. I am so happy I invested in the rulers. I thank you Sue, that even though I am not at this time, continueing on in Petit Belle en Rouge, I will be soon and now I Know how to quilt too. Thank you so much. So much more perfect than free motion quilting. Can’t wait to try the Hearts and More Rulers and the Ruler Foot.
I’m cheering for your big successes propelled by puny failures!
Thank you! Your post is helping me reframe my fails from last year and given me new hope for this year. I fail more than I succeed and maybe my goals are too broad. This year I’m not making so many goals but I am working on tracking my progress so I hope that helps. Progress over perfection! In life as well as quilting!
That is wonderful Debbi! I will keep you informed of my 50 fails progress. It is all about the learning experience. Sue
