New: Hand Applique Templates for Promise Ring

I like to think that all of my patterns can be made with hand applique as well as using my templates for fusible applique. I am working on a method to cut both the fabrics and the foundations for hand applique using the Leaves Galore Templates. Meanwhile, if you want to complete any of my patterns by hand, all you need is the outline drawing of each shape. Now, on my patterns page, I have put the pattern for the 2 1/2″ leaf and the 8″ arc needed for the Promise Ring Quilt. Enjoy!!

All of you are winners today, because I fixed my shipping cost issues on the site!! My shopping program could not tell the difference between templates and patterns to calculate shipping. Above is a photo of a floor cloth that I made for Roclon Industries. Roclon makes a fabric that is a heavy canvas type multi-purpose fabric. I used this fabric, and my hope’s diamond pattern to make a floor cloth for the Roclon booth at Fall Quilt Market in Houston. I just love the way it came out, and need to make myself one!! The floor cloth was so large, I had to place it on my deck, and hang out a 2nd story window to get this picture. Do you see the sliding glass door in the lower left? In my February Newsletter, I will outline the steps to make the floor cloth, so you can see how easy it is! Watch for the newsletter coming to your mailbox soon.

Here is my Norme size Leaves Galore Template. Isn’t it wild? This funny looking tool does so many neat things. You can use it to cut standard shaped applique leaves, up to 5 layers at a time, with fusible or without. This makes your applique a whole lot faster and easier! You can also cut vines with either side, making vine and leaf borders a cinch. Shift the template just a little bit, and you get “S” shaped curves like the ones used to make applique ribbons on my Christmas Ribbons quilt pattern.

My patterns are the best way to learn to use the templates. That is, after you watch the free online video! The video is like having me come into your home for a private lesson, but the patterns are where you practice the quick cutting methods. Fun with Free Downloads!

I had a wonderful day with my sister, Maria, my Mom and Lois Palmer today at my house. Lois was appraising all my quilts that I use in my business. Here is my plug about appraisals…if you have quilts and they get lost, stolen, burned or flooded, the insurance value is about $20, the cost of a new BLANKET! That is all I have to say. Get them appraised and insured! Lois evaluated my business quilts, but also the beautiful hand applique and hand quilted wedding quilt that my Mom made for Jeffrey and I. I was so glad Mom was here to answer Lois’ questions about the techniques and patterns in the quilt.

Maria is my web designer, and we got together to chat, drink cappuccino and fix some web issues. Today I learned that I can upload PDF files that you can download! You have to go through my shop, but the first download is ready for you to try! Put the download into your shopping basket, check out with paypal (for $0.00) and the download is yours! This first one is set of cutting instructions for making Sunflower, Poinsettia and Daisy flower petals. This is the same supplement that is in the Flowers Galore Place Mat Pattern, but you can get it for free!

Lets try out the free download for a month or two, then I will be adding dowlaodable patterns that you can buy from the website in the near future. How awesome is that!! Going green, saving paper, and saving on shipping costs all at the same time. How can you go wrong?

Celebrating Lauren!

Dear Friends, I am off to Europe on Tuesay of next week, but before I go there is much to catch up on! Firstly, for those of you who know my sister Gina, (also known as my right hand lady at quilt shows!) she is getting married on Saturday!! We are so excited for Gina and Jim as they start their life together. Congratulations!!

Love this new book!

Gina has just finished illustrating a book for Quilt Queen Designs owner Patricia Pepe. This book is full of great ideas on using the x-blocks template for simple and wonderful pieced designs. Gina and I have gotten to know Patricia and her daughter Ariel in our quilt show travels. We just love Patricia and think she deserves her title of Quilt Queen!! Congratulations to Patricia on her second book and to Gina who illustrated it!

Now, back to Celebrating Lauren!! Lauren is my 17 year old daughter. Lauren has been accepted at our local community college into the 12th year program. She will finish her Senior year of high school while attending her first year of college. Not a bad two for one deal!! To celebrate her departure from high school, (not really a graduation yet…)we are traveling to Rome and Paris where we will spend one week in each city. We have friends in both cities and will enjoy living like the locals while we vacation.

Joanne Bertrand, my wonderful new employee at Sue Pelland Designs, will be here in MA taking care of all your quilting needs! Joanne will continue to get products out the door and will be helping me get ready for the Mancuso show in Oaks, PA which will be just around the corner when I arrive home from Europe! Our class on Rotary cut Applique is sold out. I hope to offer another class at future shows. I will keep you informed as I get these scheduled.

So until after my much needed vacation, I wish you happy quilting, and happy rest of the summer vacation! Enjoy the beautiful weather and your families….life is too short so get out there and live life! Sue

Mancuso Pennsylvania National Quilt Show

I am pleased to be teaching a half day workshop at Mancuso’s Pennsylvania National Quilt Show in September. If you have purchased your templates from me at other local shows, but haven’t had the chance to try them out yet, this is your class!! Take time for yourself to learn something new, and explore the possibilities open to you with the Leaves Galore Templates. We will not be working on a specific quilt, but will explore several techniques that I use in my patterns. This will give you a good overview, including samples that you can take home, without starting yet another quilt!

Students are encouraged to purchase a template ahead of the class, so you can practice cutting curves at home before the class. This will give you the confidence you need to jump right in and take home lots of class samples. Here are a few examples of what other students made in class.
